I just canceled my Residential Card

Fuck the Shanghai govenrment, it’s just too complex and too hard to extend my residential card. There are just too many requirements that are hard too meet and take too long time to go through the process. I heard that some guy have took three month and several leaves from company to get his card renewed and this stupid card only has a valid period of one year. So I decide to give up the fucking damn useless residential card.
Shanghai Residential Card is a certification that differs from the Identification Card or the nortrious Hukou. In general, it’s for those who work in Shanghai but don’t have a Shanghai Hukou. For non-Shangnainese like me, they can only have their social insurance covered only if they get this card. I guess this is another conspiracy that the Shanghai government designed to constrain labor cost at a lower level. Why? Because when a employeree can’t get his/her residential card, the employer dosn’t have to pay his/her social insurance. In this way, the labor cost has been compressed.
My Residential Card expired in late 2006. And since then my social insurance has been suspended. When I want to learn driving, the stuff tell me that my residential card had expired and I had to renew it. I asked the stuff what if I can’t renew? He told me that I can appy a Temporary Residentail Card. And I can only apply a Temporary Residential Card when I have my Residential Card canceled. So, that just why I cancel it today.
When I went to the institution to cancel my card, two things amazed me. One is that it will take 30 days to cancel it. Second is that as long as I canceled my Residential Card, I can’t apply another one in the future. Fuck that! I just canced it and decided that I will never come back to work in this city when I leave next year.
