Booked a Blackberry 9000

July 26th, 2010   Filed under English entries, Life

Can you imagine a phone that with out data cable? I have to type in my contacts one by one. And now, it tells me that the memory is full and I cant enter any new contact info unless I delete some old one. That’s exactly the phone I’m having now. I was planning to buy a simple phone when purchasing the Philips Xenium 9@9, however, but not planning to buy such a stupid thing. Plus, the painting is peeling off. Why Philip, such a decent brand, would dare to make such stupid, low quality product?

I’ve managed to bear with this stupid phone for two years. Thinking I’ve made the best use of this phone I decided to change for a new one months ago. However, since I quite my last job in the end of April and didn’t have any income in May and June, I have to postpone the plan till today when I get the first month salary form the new employer. I hesitated between Blackberry 9000 and Blackberry 9520. While 9520 is more fashionable and entertainment-oriented with a full touch screen, 9000 is more traditional and business-oriented with the qwerty keyboard. After comparison, I decided to buy the Blackberry 9000. Because if I am going to buy an entertaining phone I shall turn to Apple.

I brought this on an independent store name heimei.cn which sells Blackberry only. It offers the lower price even than the Taobao shops. The BB 9000 costs me about 2000 yuan. Scheduled to arrive on Thursday. After accompanied by a awkward phone for two year, I can’t wait to see the phone now.

The Old Taste

July 24th, 2010   Filed under English entries, Life

It’s hot in Beijing today and I was sweaty. So I pulled up my car at the door of a convenience store and went in to find something that can quench my thirst. First I picked up a bottle of 2.5L hawthorn juice from the shelf, not for the immediate need, priced 10 yuan. And then I went to the freezer where I spotted an ice-lolly with a quite different traditional package design. I reads “Old Middle Street Ice-lolly 老中街冰棍” and “All new debut, classical taste”. Attracted by its distinctive package I decided to gave it a try.

I was a little surprised when the cashier told me that the total cost was 10.5 yuan. “So the ice-lolly only costs 0.5 yuan?” I asked and got a positive answer. Wow, I can’t imagine there are still things that is so cheap! You know the inflation. I stept out of the store, put the juice into the can and decided to ate the lolly first before drove for home.

I stripped off the package and in front of me was a plain icy rectangle. As soon as I gave the first bite on the ice-lolly, I was shocked. “Yes, it’s it! It’s exactly the old taste! YUMMY!” The flavor was the same as it was when I was a primary school boy.  It’s not creamy or coated with much chocolate as most of lollies today. Instead, most of the substance is ice, the kind of soft ice rather than hand ones. The ice would soon melt into water in the mouth and it really quenched my thirst and even brought me some of my childhood memory. I decided to buy more and stocked them in my own refrigerator.

Many think food nowadays is not as delicious as the old days. Some said that we think the old food is more delicious is because we were lack of supply in the past. However, the lolly proofs that some of the old food is of really good taste.

Yummy and cool ice lolly. Nice~

The most difficult thing to do – PERSISTENCE

July 21st, 2010   Filed under Life, Thinking

I’ve just finished 63 push-ups. I feel good for that accomplishment. However, 63 has already behind my original schedule. I should be doing 93 push-ups today if I stick to my original plan that do one more push-up everyday than the previous day from the starting point of 30 on May 27. So for the past 63 days, I persists about 50% of the total days of doing push-ups. Where I am in the rest 50% days?

Well, if I draw a frequency bar chart of days every week I’m practicing push-ups, I will find that the frequency is decreasing gradually from 7 to 1 or 2. Why? First is because that as the days accumulates, the bar becoming higher each time you try to persist. 30 is the starting point, then 31, then 32, 33,….50, that’s a breakthrough, then gos on and on, higher and higher. Second is that you begin to find more and more excuses to stop persistence. This day you have too much work to do. That day you don’t sleep well. Well, where there’s a need, there comes out an excuse. There’s a lure of lazy, of stopping persistence.

Recently, I’ve planned to keep journal everyday. When I turn on my journal book, I found the last journal was on 21st Jun – whole month ago! And I only keep 16 days of journal. Compared to that my persistence on push-ups is actually much better. And persistence does pay off. 63 is remarkable. How many people at my age can do that much of push-ups? And I will be able to do even more latter. That feeling is great.

I heard that it takes 5 years to form a habit. The reality is that even you persisted something for 5 years, it’s still easy to give up. Wangjianshuo has been writing daily English blog for 8 eight years with total journal of 2,700! What a great achievement. However, he almost gave up that habit due to, as he himself explains, busy work. Good thing is that Wang resumed its daily blog recently. “Now, I feel I am starting to get back to the original energy level, so, I think I am able to get back to the daily blog schedule which I kept for years.” he said.

I think Wang would proud of himself for that persistence, even he write only nonsense in many entries. That doesn’t matter, what matters is the ability to persist. It would stand there and say: hi, dude, look at what have you done. You can make it!

So, here’s what I’m going to persist recently:

  1. Do one more push-up every day that the previous day until it reaches 100
  2. Write a comment about every movie I see and with a picture of the poster, director and actor/actress.
  3. Restart the habit of write daily journal

It’s a lot to do.

American History X (1998)

July 18th, 2010   Filed under Books 'n Movies

His father taught him to hate. His friends taught him rage. His enemies gave him hope.

导演: Tony Kaye

主角: Edward Norton

Spirited Away (2001)

July 4th, 2010   Filed under Books 'n Movies

《千与千寻》。海报上是这么写的“Beauty, power, mystery, and above all, heart.”
