The Old Taste

It’s hot in Beijing today and I was sweaty. So I pulled up my car at the door of a convenience store and went in to find something that can quench my thirst. First I picked up a bottle of 2.5L hawthorn juice from the shelf, not for the immediate need, priced 10 yuan. And then I went to the freezer where I spotted an ice-lolly with a quite different traditional package design. I reads “Old Middle Street Ice-lolly 老中街冰棍” and “All new debut, classical taste”. Attracted by its distinctive package I decided to gave it a try.
I was a little surprised when the cashier told me that the total cost was 10.5 yuan. “So the ice-lolly only costs 0.5 yuan?” I asked and got a positive answer. Wow, I can’t imagine there are still things that is so cheap! You know the inflation. I stept out of the store, put the juice into the can and decided to ate the lolly first before drove for home.
I stripped off the package and in front of me was a plain icy rectangle. As soon as I gave the first bite on the ice-lolly, I was shocked. “Yes, it’s it! It’s exactly the old taste! YUMMY!” The flavor was the same as it was when I was a primary school boy. It’s not creamy or coated with much chocolate as most of lollies today. Instead, most of the substance is ice, the kind of soft ice rather than hand ones. The ice would soon melt into water in the mouth and it really quenched my thirst and even brought me some of my childhood memory. I decided to buy more and stocked them in my own refrigerator.
Many think food nowadays is not as delicious as the old days. Some said that we think the old food is more delicious is because we were lack of supply in the past. However, the lolly proofs that some of the old food is of really good taste.
Yummy and cool ice lolly. Nice~
